Here's a teaser reel for a proposed cartoon based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The animation is surprisingly not terrible, but also has that Bruce Timm vibe that every cartoon after Batman: The Animated Series seemed to rely upon.
I'm also a little confused about where the producers thought this show would air, because it violates just about every ridiculous standard of "childrens television" within this three-minute clip. But it's also not sleazy enough for HBO, either.
Still, it's an interesting relic of a show that almost-was.
I wish this did make it as a cartoon, it could be sweet and with animation being big in prime time who needs it to be a children's cartoon? there are plenty of those on TV now, let's get some more geared for the lovers of the lurkers of darkness! Woo! Woo! I'm on board the animated BtVS train!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have seen this, too, but there weren't a lot of outlets available for it at the time it was developed. Cartoons still relied on the good graces of Fox/Kids WB programming which meant it either played after school every day, or on weekend mornings. And those places weren't "vampire friendly."
ReplyDeleteIt's different today. I'm sure Spike would pick it up, or even Adult Swim, G4, Comedy Central, ScyFy, etc.
