mc chris: Part Six
If you're here, you've probably heard the song Fett's Vette by mc chris. If not, click here to check it out.
Since releasing Life's a Bitch and I'm Her Pimp free online back in 2001, Chris Ward has created an extended narrative across his albums through the use of between-song sketches. He's not the first to do this kind of thing (NWA and Ice T used to pepper their albums with lots of bits between tracks) but he's probably the first to do so on such an epic scale.
Here's the really, really short version of the story so far: mc chris is killed by the head of his fictional record label, gets turned into a zombie and is cast into hell.
His latest album is divided into three EPs which pick up where his last album, mc chris is dead, left off: with our erstwhile hero competing against an army of maniacs in hell to win his freedom (and maybe even win Rocky's robot, too.)
The best bit is that a joke buried in an earlier sketch (where Chris is pressured into milking the success of Fett's Vette with more songs about Star Wars bounty hunters and their cars) pays off. These songs - Dengar's Dumptruck, IG-88s '57 Chevy and Zuckuss's Prius - appear on the three EPs that comprise Part Six.
FREE BONUS: Here's a live recording of mc chris in Atlanta, Ga., on Nov. 3 2008. It's courtesy of mcchrislive.com, an amazing repository of bootlegs.
